I like bikes, and I like fashion.
I am OK with that...what I am not OK with, is that the two rarely go together.
I am always on the look out for tasteful items of clothing that reflect my passion for cycling. Importantly, these items of clothing need to be designed and made by cyclists for cyclists. It takes another bike rider to understand the nuances of clothing design for the fit cyclist.
Fit cyclists have several defining physical features that are not always considered by other designers, for example;
- cyclists do not have chests
- cyclists do not have bulging biceps
- cyclists rarely have a stomach bulge
- cyclists will always have distinct tan lines 3/4 of the way up their arms - where white meets brown
With this in mind, clothing for off the bike needs to fit well, and compliment these features!
"Apres Velo cranked out in 2006 to fill a gaping void within the cycling industry’s casual clothing offering. Leonard Greis and Sarina Tomchin, two Sydney based cycling mates chatted over a coffee or 3 about the severe lack of groovy bicycle-inspired tee shirts that proclaimed their life-long passion for their sport."
Recently a friend of mine has joined Leonard and Sarina to help take the Apres Velo brand further, and today we met for a coffee and a chat about the business and its ambitions!
